Whitman Hanson
Community Access TV

Whitman Hanson Community Access (WHCA) was formed on February 28, 2005 as a non-profit corporation, charged with managing public, educational and government access programming in the towns of Hanson and Whitman. Under agreements with those two towns, WHCA is funded indirectly by Comcast subscriber revenue. However, WHCA has no direct connection with Comcast, and is not a department of the towns of Hanson or Whitman.

WHCA is overseen by a Board of Directors composed of four Hanson residents and four Whitman residents. A vacant seat will be filled by a resident from the same town as the previous Director. The current Directors and Officers of WHCA are:

  • Arlene Dias, Hanson, President
  • David Beauvais, Hanson, Vice President
  • William McColgan, Whitman, Treasurer
  • Joseph Goldsberry, Whitman, Clerk/Secretary
  • Paul Taber, Hanson
  • 2 vacancies for Whitman members
  • 1 vacancy for Hanson members

WHCA is managed on a day-to-day basis by Executive Director Stephen Roy, with the assistance of Production Coordinator Carol Ann Brewster.

The mission of WHCA is to inform, enlighten and entertain cable television viewers in Whitman and Hanson through the provision of training in television production, production facilities and cablecast time to volunteers and producers. Unless otherwise stated, the content of programs on WHCA's channel 9 is solely the responsibility of the producer(s) and does not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of WHCA's Board of Directors or staff. Programming on WHCA's channels is non-commercial.

Interested residents of Whitman or Hanson are urged to contact WHCA to sign up for free TV production training. Residents with existing skills in TV production may qualify for a waiver of training. WHCA provides certain other services, such as free Bulletin Board announcements on topics of interest to viewers.

WHCA currently operates Public Access channel 9 in both towns. We hope to soon activate separate Government Access channels in each town. Educational Access is provided by the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District on channel 98.
